Stour Marine hotspotsHow do I Log In?When you're in or near (up to 70-100 metres away) a Stour Marine hotspot with your wireless-enabled laptop or PDA:
(* If you don't log off, but just simply close your browser, your account will stay open for a few minutes before closing due to inactivity - this may incur extra charges for these minutes.) Important: if you're using Windows XP (SP2) and view wireless connection status, you'll see Stour Marine described as an 'Unsecured wireless network' or similar. Windows XP (SP2) describes most public access wireless networks in this way. Stour Marine uses sophisticated 128-bit public key encryption during log-in to protect transfer of your data. Account traffic is encrypted and your account is password protected. How do I buy access time?
At the moment, each time you purchase more access time you will be given a new and different log in name and password. Can I send and receive emails using Stour Marine?Stour Marine provides fast wireless access to the internet. To send email you need to connect with your ISP's outgoing mail server. Some ISPs don't allow users to connect directly to their outgoing mail servers from the internet because of security and spamming (junk email) concerns. It is possible you may have difficulty sending mail this way. Try it as see how you get on with your ISP. Is there a download limit? No. Wireless broadband is perfect for uploading or downloading large files at fast speed. Usage is based on time rather than data transfer amount. Will I be able to send and receive large files when using Stour Marine? You may be able to send large emails but remember that a recipient's email account may limit the amount of data accepted. We suggest that you limit emails and attachments to 10MB. How do I connect to banking, financial institution and other secure shopping internet sites?Once you're connected to the internet using Stour Marine, you'll be able to access any of the sites you'd normally be able to visit. You won't need any special settings, but, upon signing in to your banking account, remember to look for the padlock icon on your browser and click on it to confirm that the security certificate is valid. Is there any risk to health from using wireless network (WLAN) technology?Wireless networks are no greater health hazard than mobile phones. Wireless networks cover much shorter distances than mobile phones and so operate at much lower power levels. Can I use my PC to make phone calls? You can make phone calls using your PC with this new service. The technology is known as VoIP. Be aware the quality may not be very good. How do I connect to my company network?Once you've successfully logged into Stour Marine, you'll need to follow your company's procedures to access your Virtual Private Network (VPN) - the same process you would normally use to access your corporate network remotely. This may include supplying unique information from a SecurID token. You should check before you go to a hotspot that no additional steps are required for you to use Stour Marine.
